The Sarnia Harbour dredging project is going to cost the city more money. Council will be asked to use $259-thousand from Federal reserves when it meets Monday.
The money would be used to pay environmental consultants, and the project engineer as well as frac tank rentals.
Temporary surface water controls would also need to be installed at the airport.
That would run the total cost of the project to just over $3.4-million.
Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley says this should have been brought up during last week’s budget deliberations.
“Just a few days ago, we did our budget,” says Bradley. “Never was it raised to us that there was another ask coming for almost $260-thousand. Even at that meeting, I was expressing concerns about that reserve. At one point, it was at $8-million, and it continues to be depleted significantly.”
The project, which started a couple of years ago, included moving 38,000 cubic m of non-contaminated sediment to Telfer Rd. near Chris Hadfield Airport.
