MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — City and state officials will be on hand Thursday to officially kick off the Langan Lake dredging project.
According to a City of Mobile news release, the dredging of Langan Lake is the third phase of the Three Mile Creek Watershed Restoration Project, and will remove 225,000 cubic yards of sediment from the lakebed.
The dredging will improve overall water quality, remove invasive species and open the lake to expanded recreational uses like kayaking and canoeing, the release said.
The work will also include drainage improvements, using dredge spoil for construction and converting the current concrete drainage channel on the northeast side of the park into a naturalized stream, featuring stones and native plants, according to the release.
Hughes Companies, Inc. will perform the work, after being awarded the contract by the Mobile City Council, the release said.
