The Mobile City Council is considering spending $125,000 on a dredging project at Arlington Park.
IIt’spart of an agreement with Airbus and the Mobile Airport Authority. Another $125,000 would be provided by the county and around $600,000 could come from Airbus.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s office is sponsoring the resolution. He said Airbus will need the improvements as it works to ramp up production from four planes a month to six or eight planes a month.
“They’re going to be rebuilding a wharf and dredging a channel so they can bring their parts for the airplane closer to where they’re actually used at Brookley,” said Stimpson.
Currently, Airbus parts are shipped to APM Terminals along the Mobile River. That’s about three and a half miles away from the Airbus plant at Brookley.
The council is expected to vote on the resolution at next week’s meeting.
