Former Minister A.B. Maalakaraddi, who is the MLA for Yadgir, inspected the tank dredging work at Pogalapur village in the district on Sunday.
Mr. Maalakaraddi, who was accompanied by Yadgir Zilla Panchayat CEO Vikas Suralkar, visited the tank where several labourers were busy removing silt.
While interacting with them, he asked them about how many hours of work and how much they were getting paid under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. They told him that they were being paid Rs. 224 a day.
‘Increase man days’
He suggested to Mr. Suralkar that man days be increased, and added that the dredging should be completed at the earliest.
He said with the district reeling under a severe drought, and villagers migrating to big cities in search of jobs, better implementation of MGNREGA works could prevent this.
Mr. Suralkar assured him that they work would be completed as planned, and added that tanks are being dredged already in 22 gram panchayats across Yadgir district.
