Mississippi Dredging in Wabasha Set to Begin in August

Posted on July 25, 2016

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is scheduled to begin a dredged material unloading project at Crats Island in Wabasha the first week of August.

The Corps’ contractor, JF Brennan Marine from La Crosse, mobilized to the site in June and has been preparing for the island unload. The site unloading project should be completed by the end of 2017.

The contractor is hydraulically removing and pumping 900,000 cubic yards of dredged material nearly five miles from Crats Island and permanently placing it at the Corps’ Wabasha gravel pit site. The contractor will be working 24 hours per day, six days per week.

The Corps is asking everyone near the site to exercise caution during the unloading project.
