A piece of St. Paul history could soon be moving to Winona.
A non-profit, the William A. Thompson Dredge Museum bought the Minnesota Centennial Showboat, parked at Harriett Island from the city of St. Paul last week with plans to move it south.
The group paid $40,000 for the boat and now need to raise $15,000 to have it towed to Winona, since the showboat doesn’t have an engine. The city has given the group a deadline of August 10 to remove the boat.
“The clock is ticking and we need to get moving on that,” Dave Belz, with the Museum, said. “We are going to make this happen.”
Donations may be sent to Winona National Bank, PO Box 499, Winona, Minn., or delivered in person to Winona National Bank. Additionally, Citizens State Bank in La Crosse offers a program called “WeCare,” which donates to specific nonprofits including the William A. Thomson Dredge Museum.
