The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District will begin construction this month on the Mid-Town segment of the Palm Beach Shore Protection Project in partnership with the Town of Palm Beach. The effort will restore storm-related erosion along the federally authorized Mid-Town Beach project area, from Seminole Avenue to Banyan Road.

Beach mobilization is scheduled to begin the week of February 17, with dredging operations starting in March. Work is expected to continue through the end of April.

This federally funded project will place approximately 480,000 cubic yards of sand—sourced from Palm Beach Harbor and/or offshore borrow areas—onto the shoreline within Reaches 3 and 4. Sand will be graded and distributed to reinforce the beach system and reduce coastal storm risk.

Construction equipment and materials will be staged primarily at the Sunset Avenue and Peruvian Avenue beach access points, with additional staging at Clarke Avenue and active construction areas as needed. Temporary beach closures will occur throughout the project; however close coordination between the USACE and the Town is being made to minimize impacts to residents and visitors.

“The Town of Palm Beach has a history of being forward-thinking, proactive and innovative in how we protect homes, critical infrastructure and our coastal resources today and for future generations,” said Town of Palm Beach Coastal Coordinator Sara Gutekunst.

Project work is scheduled during a period that avoids the peak sea turtle nesting season. Weather and equipment availability may influence daily operations and overall project duration.

The Mid-Town Beach effort supports the Town’s long-term Coastal Management Plan, which includes beach renourishment, dune restoration, and other measures to reduce erosion and enhance coastal resilience.

“USACE, Jacksonville District is grateful to its partner, the Town of Palm Beach, in its continued support of the Mid-Town Segment’s upcoming beach renourishment and looks forward to a successful construction project that provides protection along the Town’s coastline,” said Chris McNees, Jacksonville District Project Manager for the effort.
