MID-MICHIGAN – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning more than $17.5 million worth of maintenance at five harbors along the Lake Huron shore in Mid-Michigan.

The dredging and repair projects are part of more than $290 million worth of harbor maintenance planned around the western Great Lakes over the summer.

The Mid-Michigan projects include:

  • Caseville — $832,000 for general maintenance and engineering analysis for future breakwater repairs.
  • Lexington — $5 million for dredging, breakwater repairs, walkway repairs, updated signage and vegetation control.
  • Port Sanilac — $3.457 million for dredging, critical maintenance for safety structures and engineering for future maintenance projects on the north and south breakwaters.
  • Saginaw River — $6 million for dredging, sampling, testing, groundwater well monitoring and general maintenance of the shipping channel.
  • Sebewaing River — $2.225 million for engineering of future concrete spalling repairs on the north bank, clearing vegetation and design of a future retaining wall replacement project.

“Repairing, maintaining and improving our federal harbors and infrastructure is essential to bring resiliency to our communities, our economy and the environment,” said Corps of Engineers Detroit District Commander Lt. Col. Wallace Bandeff.

The Corps of Engineers also received $1.2 million to continue an unspecified feasibility study along the Chippewa, Pine, Tittabawassee and Tobacco rivers in Mid-Michigan this year.
