Augusta — The Maine Department of Transportation’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan for calendar years 2019, 2020 and 2021 is now available to the public.
Among 2,193 projects that involve mostly roads and bridges across the state, the plan calls for dredging Searsport’s commercial channel, which serves Mack Point, at an estimated cost of $5.5 million.
Total estimated value of work in the plan is more than $2.44 billion. The full work plan, searchable by municipality, is available on the Maine DOT website at https://www.maine.gov/mdot/projects/workplan/search/ .
Announcements of Waldo County projects were made March 4 by Rep. MaryAnne Kinney of Knox, R-Dist. 99, and Sen. Erin Herbig of Belfast, D-Waldo County.
The three-year plan estimates MDOT will invest in 199 miles of highway construction and rehabilitation, 1,142 miles of pavement preservation, 1,800 miles of light capital paving for roads and highways, 203 spot and safety improvements, and 203 bridge projects.
The following work is planned in Waldo County this year, with estimated prices noted for the largest projects:
Paving
– In Liberty and Montville, beginning at Route 173 and extending north 1.79 miles to Route 3, $77,270.
– In Appleton and Liberty, beginning 0.06 miles north of the Washington town line on Route 105 and extending east 6.21 miles, $268,070.
– In Lincolnville and Northport beginning 0.03 miles north of Carver Lane and extending north 2.25 miles, $97,127.
– Beginning 0.3 miles south of the Lincolnville town line and extending north 2.68 miles, $115,689.
– Beginning 0.46 miles east of Spruce Head Lane and extending northeast 4.59 miles in Northport, $1.78 million.
– In Benton and Unity, beginning at Route 202 and extending west 7 miles, cyclical resurfacing, $1.035 million.
– Beginning at Route 9 and extending north 1.62 miles to Route 220 in Troy, $66,906.
Bridge work
– Replacing Sheldon Bridge over Warren Brook, 0.89 miles east of Shepard Road in Belfast, $715,000.
– Replacing Goose River Bridge over Goose River, 0.15 miles east of Mitchell Street in Belfast, $2.355 million.
– Replacing the deck of Lord Bridge over Marsh Stream connecting Frankfort and Monroe, located 0.03 miles west of Marsh Stream Road, $322,500.
– Repairing wing walls and installing new drains on the Perry Bridge over the North Branch Stream, 0.5 miles northeast of Penny Royal Lane in Jackson.
Ditching and culvert maintenance
– Ditching and replacing culverts on Lincolnville Road in Belmont beginning at Howard Road and extending north 0.18 miles.
– Improving large culverts located on Loggin Road, 0.14 miles west of Old Stage Road in Frankfort, $200,000.
– Ditching and replacing culverts on Route 137 in Knox and Freedom beginning at Morse Road and extending 3.52 miles to Pleasant Street.
– Ditching Main Street in Liberty, beginning 0.06 miles southeast of Percy Road and extending 0.36 miles.
– Replacing a culvert on Route 173 in Lincolnville, located 0.33 miles northwest of Salt Pond Lane.
– Ditching and replacing three culverts in Montville, beginning at Fox Road and extending north 3.20 miles.
– Ditching and replacing a culvert on Route 173, beginning at Trillium Way and extending southeast 2.11 miles to West Appleton Road in Montville and Searsmont.
– Replacing culverts on Route 131 in Searsmont 0.23 miles west of Lincolnville Avenue, $75,000.
– Ditching and replacing culverts on New England Road in Searsmont, beginning at the Pond Road and extending northwest 1.6 miles to Paul’s Corner.
– Replacing culverts on Rogers Road in Troy, beginning at North Middle Road and extending 0.42 miles southeast of Troy Center Road.
– Ditching and replacing culverts on Route 202 in Unity and Troy, beginning at Route 220 in Unity and extending north 4.8 miles to Rogers Road, $58,000.
– Ditching on Route 69 in Winterport beginning at Route 139 and extending south 2.32 miles to Route 1A, $68,000.
– Ditching and replacing a culvert on Route 139 in Winterport, beginning at Stream Road and extending east 0.2 miles.
Other projects
– Dredging the commercial channel of Searsport, which serves Mack Point, estimated at $5.5 million.
– Repairing wings and fascia on the Sanborn Bridge over the Passagassawakeag Brook in Waldo 0.06 miles northwest of Cross Lane, $40,000.
– Working on operating costs at the Penobscot Narrows Observatory, estimated to cost $150,000.
– Painting bearings and beam ends on the Waldo Avenue Bridge over Route 1, 0.05 miles northwest of Field Street in Belfast.
– Stabilizing and protecting the slope 0.2 miles north of Switzer Spring Road in Prospect, estimated at $75,000.
– Completing a 1¼ inch overlay beginning 0.13 miles northeast of Trundy Road and extending northeast 4.43 miles in Searsport and Stockton Springs, estimated at slightly more than $2 million.
– Stabilizing and protecting the slope 1.1 miles north of Town House Road in Swanville, $75,000.
