Mayor Stimpson: Sediment removal begins in Langan Lake

Posted on October 13, 2025

MOBILE, Ala. – Mayor Sandy Stimpson in The Nightly Newsletter with Mayor Sandy Stimpson posted this past week that sediment removal has begun in Langan Lake.

Here is part of the post:

There is a lot of activity happening at one of our biggest parks, as crews continue to remove 225,000 cubic yards of sediment from the bottom of Langan Lake.

Amphibious excavators rolled into the lake Friday morning (October 3) to begin removing decades of sediment and muck from the bottom of the lake.

This long-awaited dredging project will not only improve overall water quality and remove invasive species, but it will also open Langan Lake up to expanded recreational uses, like kayaking and canoeing.

This project is the third phase of a larger restoration effort in the Three Mile Creek Watershed and will complement the major improvements that have previously been made along Twelve Mile Creek.

This is one of the many ways we’re expanding recreational activities and reconnecting Mobilians to the water. I look forward to seeing Mobilians of all ages out on the water at Langan very soon.

You can learn more about the project and the dredging process in the video below or at mapformobile.org/3mcwatershed.

Our officers want you to join them for a night of fun and community building! The Mobile Police Department will be co-hosting the National Night Out event at Dick’s House of Sport at McGowin Park tomorrow night, October 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. National Night Out is an annual event held throughout the country that seeks to foster strong neighborhood camaraderie and build positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Our officers are blessed to have great community support, but they are always striving to meet and engage with the Mobilians who depend on them.

We would love to have you and your family join officers tomorrow to enjoy live music, food trucks, games, and some great local vendors. Let’s build a stronger, safer community together!
