Mayor, Packers Plan Announcement on Beach for Bay Beach

Posted on December 17, 2018

Updates to show Tuesday’s announcement is moved to Lambeau Field

The beachfront at Bay Beach on Green Bay’s shores is closer to coming back. The mayor’s office says it will announce details next week of a “fundraising milestone” to restore the beach.

The plan, with a price tag of $7 million, includes a 1,000-foot sand beach for swimming, a 450-foot pier, a shoreline walkway, concession stand and bathhouse. Construction is expected to start next year.

The mayor plans a news conference next Tuesday, December 18, in the Lambeau Field atrium, with representatives of the Green Bay Packers, Patrick Engineer, and the Karma Group.

Mayor Jim Schmitt wrote in a statement Thursday evening, “Bringing back swimming to Bay Beach is one of the most significant community campaigns in which I’ve participated. Restoring this important natural and recreational area will impact our community for generations to come.”

Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy added, “The Packers are pleased to support Green Bay’s beach restoration at Bay Beach and we’re looking forward to sharing more details at Tuesday’s announcement.”
