Crews from the Baltimore District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will start work this month on a $25.6 million project to maintain shipping lanes in Baltimore Harbor and its bay channels, according to a news release. Some of the dredged material will be sent to an Anne Arundel County facility.
Workers will begin dredging about 2.6 million cubic yards of material to “ensure continued safe navigation in and out of the Port of Baltimore,” the release said.
Baltimore District Commander Col. Ed Chamberlayne, who serves as the Supervisor of the Baltimore Harbor, said the maintenance is critical to the regional and national economy.
