The Trump administration has said it plans to revoke US Wind’s permit for the project, which aims to power more than 718,000 homes.
CLIMATEWIRE | The developer of an offshore wind project near Maryland is asking a federal judge to prevent the Trump administration from revoking its permit, asserting that the move could force the company into bankruptcy.
The Interior Department said last month that it plans to rescind the permit for US Wind’s Maryland Offshore Wind Project. In its Wednesday filing, US Wind said those efforts amount to an “existential risk” that could lead investors to pull financing.
The company is asking the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland to issue a preliminary injunction. The court is in the midst of considering a lawsuit filed in 2024 by local towns and development groups challenging the wind project.
In the filing, US Wind argues that the Trump administration is all but certain to try and revoke the 2024 permit, given its actions to stop other wind projects and “a steady stream of rhetoric from the highest-ranking officials promising to ‘end wind development.’”…
