Dubai’s Drydocks World shipyard has held a steel-cutting ceremony to mark the start of a conversion project for the Dutch company, Boskalis. The company will convert a drill ship, Yan, into an offshore installation vessel named Bokalift 2, designed to carry out offshore operations for windmill installations in Taiwan.
The project is expected to require over 10,000 tonnes of steel replacement, as well as the installation of a 4,000 tonnes crane on the vessel. Drydocks World will carry out all of the necessary conversion work in line with BV class rules, including detailed engineering and the supply of steel, piping and electrical materials, as well as the construction and installation of client supplied equipment.
Thanking Boskalis for awarding Drydocks World this significant contract, Capt. Rado Antolovic, CEO, added, “The work will equip the vessel with enhanced performance and operational efficiency. Drydocks World is a specialist in offshore conversion, and we are very pleased to be extending our expertise with a project that will contribute to renewable energy development in Taiwan.”
He stressed that, as with all projects carried out under the current circumstances, production work on the Bokalift 2 conversion will comply with strict Covid-19 precautionary safety measures.
