Maintenance dredging in Ponce Inlet begins

Posted on May 22, 2023

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, started maintenance dredging of sections of the Ponce de Leon Inlet and nearby sections of the Intracoastal Waterway.

The USACE dredging vessel Murden is expected to remove approximately 60,000 cubic yards of shoaling material over a 40-day period.

Operations will be ongoing 24 hours per day, seven days a week until completion.

Dredge material placement will be to a pre-designated nearshore location just north of Ponce de Leon Inlet.

Boaters and navigators are advised to maintain safe distances and low wake speeds in the vicinity of the dredge and attendant equipment, and to follow signage and crew instructions to maintain public safety during the dredging operation.

Jacksonville District maintains safe navigability in the IWW and Ponce Inlet in partnership with Florida Inland Navigation District and Volusia County.
