Maersk opens new warehouse facility in El Paso, Texas to support customers’ cross-border logistics needs

Posted on September 9, 2024

El Paso, Texas – A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) opened a new 402,000-square-foot facility in El Paso, Texas to support growing demand for logistics services at the border of the United States and Mexico.

The facility is located five minutes from the Ysleta-Zaragoza International Bridge on the border of El Paso and Ciudad Juárez in Chihuahua, Mexico, enabling fast and flexible cross-border trade between countries. The Ysleta Port of Entry, located at the bridge, is the largest commercial port in the El Paso district and a critical trade corridor for northbound goods out of Juárez. The site is located along a popular stopping point for trucks heading north and south across the border and for U.S. domestic loads heading east and west along Interstate 10.

With 73 dock doors, two ramps for oversize cargo and 116 truck yard spaces, the multiclient facility is designed for efficient receiving, separation and consolidation of cargo as well as the distribution of freight across North America using Maersk’s ground freight network. It is equipped with 24-hour surveillance and a fully fenced yard.

The opening of the El Paso facility is a milestone for Maersk in North America, as it reinforces our commitment to serving customers’ cross-border and less-than-truckload needs. Maersk’s ambition is to be the integrator of logistics, and this strategic move enables us to provide customers with an expanded product portfolio, encompassing ocean services, warehousing and distribution and landside transportation, tailored to the intricacies of cross-border trade.

The facility is a customs bonded warehouse, enabling customers to delay duty payment until the merchandise is released for consumption or re-exported. Additionally, the site has an 80,000-square-foot Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ), where customers can store goods indefinitely without incurring duties. Customers can also rent office space within the facility, providing authorized personnel convenient access to their inventory.

The site is compliant with Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) voluntary trade partnership program to secure and facilitate the movement of legitimate international trade, and has ISO 9001:2015 certification, the international standard of excellence for quality management systems.

Warehousing services performed at the site support customers across a variety of industries, such as automotive, healthcare, retail and technology. Services include cargo sorting, storage, cross docking, inventory management and order fulfillment as well as value-added solutions, such as reverse logistics, kitting and vendor management. Other services include Less-than-Container Load (LCL), full-container load (FCL), Maersk Ground Freight (LTL, FTL, Cross-Border FTL and LTL), air freight consolidations and expedited freight services.

Maersk has more than 150 warehousing facilities across the United States, Canada and Mexico totalling more than 26 million square feet. In March, Maersk announced the opening of a new warehouse facility in Tijuana, Mexico.
