Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, USACE Commanding General and 54th U.S. Army Chief of Engineers, signed the “Middle Rio Grande Flood Protection Project, Bernalillo to Belen, New Mexico” Chief’s Report. The recommended plan is intended to reduce the risk of flood damages by constructing the Mountain View, Isleta West, Belen East and Belen West Units in the vicinity of Albuquerque, New Mexico, through the construction of approximately 48 miles of engineered levee. The project also includes the creation of approximately 266 acres of riparian habitat in the floodway to reduce the overall impact on endangered species. The signing of the report progresses the project to Congress for authorization.
