The company that has bought the marina says it has big plans for the facility THE “long-overdue” dredging of Aberystwyth Marina has been successfully completed as its new owners look set to make further improvements.
A barge operated by Dutch dredging company Van Oord has spent 14 days removing a build-up of sediment in the marina which was at a level which often made it impossible for vessels to leave the harbour at low tide.
The marina’s new owners, Cardiff Marine Group, completed its take-over in September after the company which sub-leased it from the county council, IMP Developments, went into receivership towards the end of 2014 and the marina was put up for sale with an asking price of £2.5m.
The Cambrian News has learned that, following the successful dredging operation, CMG will now invest more money changing the layout of pontoons to make them more resilient to bad weather.
Aberystwyth Marina’s David Jenkins said: “We have just completed the dredging and it has been pretty good except for one spot where they couldn’t do anything because there was a lot of gravel.
“It was long-overdue — my little boat sits in about three to four feet of water at low tide now, and before it was sitting on the mud.”
Other improvements planned are to introduce new berths and changing the layout of the current pontoons.
