The dredging of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal is on schedule and expected to be finished in December.
“The progress has been good,” said Steve Rochette, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District spokesperson. “Material is being pumped into the disposal area off and on as they advance the dredge.”
The disposal area is located between the canal and Cedar Street.
“They’ll be removing approximately 40,000 cubic yards of sediment,” Rochette said.

Contractor Dredge-it of Houston, Texas, is performing maintenance dredging from Roosevelt Inlet to just below the Freeman Highway bridge.
Rochette said the project cost is $1.6 million.
The canal dredging is among $50 million in improvements the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is making to Delaware’s ports and waterways.
