Lee County Tourist Development Council approves funding amounts for beach projects

The Lee County Tourist Development Council approved funding recommendations for 22 beach-related projects countywide at its meeting this past week.

The council distributes the funding from the collection of bed taxes. The Lee County Board of County Commissioners must approve the funding.

The projects do not include the Fort Myers Beach renourishment project, which is being worked on between the county manager’s office and the town manager’s office as part of an interlocal agreement. Those funds are through the Lee County Tourist Development Beach Renourishment Trust Fund.

The town has requested $9.8 million for its renourishment project and first-year monitoring. The council approved $5.6 million for the trust fund at its meeting this past week.

The council’s other funding recommendations are as follows:

Town of Fort Myers Beach maintenance: $1.4 million

Lee County Transit Fort Myers Beach Tram service: $253,365.00

Lovers Key State Park Bobcat Compact Track Loader: $191,350

Lovers Key State Park ADA Kayak Launch: $130,000

City of Sanibel annual neach and shoreline erosion monitoring: $50,000

Captiva Erosion Prevention District beach parking lot maintenance: $192,160

City of Cape Coral Beach Park Facility maintenance: $118,000

City of Sanibel annual facility beach maintenance: $2,083,396

Lee County Parks and Recreation Operation Beach and Shoreline Maintenance $1.96 million

Lee County Parks and Recreation Countywide Emergency Beach Cleanup: $200,000

Lee County Facilities beachfront park maintenance: $626,399

Barrier Island Parks Society, Inc. Gasparilla Island Lighthouse & Walking Trails maintenance: $33,266

Barrier Island Parks Society, Port Boca Grande Lighthouse/Gasparilla Island State Park paths: $10,092

Captiva Erosion Prevention District Beach Vehicle: $10,299

City of Cape Coral Yacht Club beach restrooms: $370,971

City of Cape Coral Yacht Club beach shoreline expansion: $814,453

City of Cape Coral Jaycee Park redevelopment, shoreline clearing and restoration: $250,000

City of Sanibel changing room rehab at Bowman’s Beach Park: $200,000

City of Sanibel Bowman’s Beach Park Kayak Launch Replacement Project: $180,000

Lee County Facilities Bonita Beach Park Improvements: $800,000

Lee County Facilities Caloosahatchee Creeks Preserve boardwalks, observation decks: $400,000 Gasparilla Island Administration Seagrape restroom facility: $120,000
