Posted on November 30, 2017

The largest dredger under IRClass named “SHANTI SAGAR – 17” of 8000 cu.m capacity has been successfully delivered to the Owners – Adani ports and SEZ Ltd by the yard – IHC Holland B.V at Netherlands, Europe.

The vessel is a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) constructed under the special survey of Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) and all the Statutory Certificates are issued by IRClass on behalf of St. Vincent & Grenadines Flag.

This dredger is built in compliance to the applicable IMO requirements including SOLAS, MARPOL, Loadline and MLC 2006. It is the first in the series of two dredgers; the second vessel is at an advanced stage of construction and is expected to be delivered this week.

This is the biggest dredger built under IRClass so far and also the first dredger to be assigned with dredging freeboard as per Guidelines for Assignment of Reduced Freeboards for Dredgers, DR-68 at the time of delivery. The DR-68 guidelines permit operations at reduced freeboard.

“We sincerely appreciate the contribution and efforts of Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) which led to the successful construction of our new vessel Shanti Sagar 17. It is their attention to detail and prompt responses which culminated into the success of this project. The technical expertise of IRS came in handy to address the challenges associated with such a project” says Colonel Vinod George (Retd), Chief Operating Officer, Dredging and Reclamation, Adani Group.

Commenting on the project, Mr. Vijay Arora, Joint Managing Director of Indian Register of Shipping said “We are pleased to note that leading owners are reposing faith in IRS and its capabilities. We look forward to working closely with Indian as well as International owners for new constructions projects worldwide”.
