MOBILE, Ala. —The City of Mobile is dredging the lake at Langan Park to create a better habitat for wildlife and improve recreation.
City officials believe that because of the improvements, drivers can expect some minor inconveniences before it’s all finished.
“A lot of the lake is only six inches in depth,” Director of Programs and Project Management, City of Mobile, Jennifer Greene said. “It causes a lot of issues, obviously, for stormwater retention and also for the ecological services that come out of the lake. And so by dredging it, we’re solving a whole host of problems.”
The dredging project will close Flournoy Drive. The parking lot on Ludlow Drive will also close.
Max McGil Drive and Ludlow Circle will be reconfigured for two-way traffic until the project is complete.
“Our goal is to have as much of the park open for the citizens as possible, Greene said. “But there are some things that we’re going to close down to ensure safety for everybody in the park.”
The project will cost around $15.2 million.
Road closures will switch things up from now on until sometime in early 2027.
