The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, in conjunction with partners from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, will be routing traffic to the original lanes on U.S. Highway 61 (Samuels Road) near the Lilly Bayou Control structure.
Weather permitting, the south bound lanes will be shifted beginning May 14 and the north bound lanes will be shifted beginning May 21. There will signage and other safety features directing drivers from the temporary roads to Hwy 61.
The project is in East Baton Rouge Parish, LA in the southern portion of the Comite River Basin. The features will provide urban flood damage reduction to reduce risks from rainfall events/headwater flooding for residents in the area. The primary project features include a control structure at the Comite River, a control structure at Lilly Bayou, three control drop structures at the intersections of the diversion channel with White, Cypress and Baton Rouge Bayous, a drop control structure in the vicinity of McHugh Road, two railroad bridges, four highway bridges and one parish road bridge.
