Lake Worth Inlet, Palm Beach lane closures coming as dredging project wraps up

Posted on April 7, 2025

The Lake Worth Inlet and a North End Palm Beach road will close on separate days next week as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers prepares to wrap up its dredging project.

One lane of North Ocean Boulevard at Palmo Way will close from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Palm Beach said in an alert.

Then, the inlet itself will close from 7 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, the town said. If weather prevents the Army Corps from completing its work, the inlet will close from 7 to 11 a.m. the following day.

Work on the Lake Worth Inlet maintenance project began Feb. 17.

As the project winds down next week, the Army Corps’ contractor, Weeks Marine, will begin to move material and equipment toward the Palmo Way beach access, where a crane will take apart some of the equipment, the town said.

Signs and workers will direct traffic on North Ocean Boulevard during the closure Monday, and some single-lane closures will be needed later in the week until all of the equipment is removed, Palm Beach said.

During the inlet closure, the submerged pipe and other equipment will be removed from the inlet, the town said.

Some equipment such as survey or other supporting vessels and tugboats may remain in the inlet for a short time after the pipe is removed, according to a Port of Palm Beach notice about the temporary closure.
