Lake Huron marina, boating slips undergoing four phases of closures through 2027 for upgrades

Posted on January 19, 2026

LEXINGTON, MI — A Lake Huron harbor is undergoing major improvements in hopes of attracting even more boaters and visitors.

The Lexington State Harbor is undergoing four phases of improvements from spring 2026 to summer 2027.

The improvements will focus on the marina, slips, fuel dock, pump-out station and boating access site.

Located about 20 miles north of Port Huron, the harbor has 108 boat slips. It’s also within walking distance of the quaint village of Lexington, including public parks, restaurants, theatre and gift shops.
Here’s the proposed schedule for the state harbor’s improvements:
  • Spring 2026: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will perform essential dredging of the federal navigation channel. The entire marina, fuel dock and sanitary pump-out station is closed through June 30, 2026. Additionally, the adjacent boating access site is closed through Sept. 8, 2026.
  • Summer 2026: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will make necessary repairs to the breakwall surrounding the harbor. As a result, slips #11-29, 40-57, 78-86, 89-92 and 95-99 will close July 1 – Sept. 8, 2026, and the boating access site will remain closed spring 2026 through Sept. 8, 2026.
  • Fall 2026: The DNR will replace all in-water structures. The entire marina, fuel dock and pump-out station will close Sept. 8, 2026 through May 28, 2027.
  • Summer 2027: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will dredge the shoaling inside the breakwall surrounding the harbor. There will likely be intermittent slip and/or boating access site closures.

Nearby, the village’s Tierney Park is also undergoing massive improvements. The park will be closed until the spring 2026. Improvements there include:

  • A newly constructed restroom and concession area will be built
  • A newly constructed amphitheater
  • Replacement of underground infrastructure and drainage, parking area improvements and drop off areas.
  • Additional parking spaces
  • Improved walkability along the waterfront with a boardwalk running from the USACE breakwall to the south, tying into the private waterfront.

“The [harbor] improvements, along with those at Tierney Park, will make Lexington State Harbor a premiere Lake Huron destination for years to come,” according to a statement from the DNR.
