KMEW Group Acquires Waterfront Land Near Vadhvan Port. Knowledge Marine and Engineering Works Limited has acquired approximately 15 acres of waterfront land in Saphale, Palghar district, Maharashtra, through its subsidiary Knowledge Shipyard Pvt Ltd, with an option to expand by an additional 5 acres.
The site is located along the Vaitarna River and in close proximity to the upcoming Vadhvan Port — positioning it to benefit directly from the construction activity, maintenance demand, and commercial shipbuilding opportunities that a major new deep-water port will generate. KMEW says the land offers approximately 188 metres of waterfront access, a natural slipway, and an estimated high-tide draft of 6 metres, with the river’s width suitable for vessel movement.
KMEW is best known as India’s largest private dredging company, operating a fleet of over 45 specialised vessels including trailing suction hopper dredgers, cutter suction dredgers, and backhoe dredgers — including the recently commissioned River Pearl 47 at JNPA, India’s largest self-propelled backhoe dredger. The Saphale shipyard acquisition marks a strategic move into commercial shipbuilding and maritime infrastructure, leveraging KMEW’s existing vessel construction and engineering expertise to address the demand that India’s National Shipbuilding Mission and the 437-vessel fleet expansion plan will generate.
