Klaipėda Port has taken a major step toward its largest expansion project with the launch of a procurement process for contractors in the southern area.
The Klaipėda State Seaport Authority has opened the first-stage tender for the construction of the southern port gates, and the selected contractor will deliver the initial infrastructure works.
Algis Latakas, Director General, said the tender marks a tangible step toward the port’s biggest project to date and noted that construction is expected to begin later this year.
The southern gates will include breakwaters, a marina, and a quay, with breakwaters also playing an important environmental role by protecting the port area.
The project is intended to unlock new space for future development, allowing Klaipėda to build new terminals and accommodate larger vessels.
Klaipėda Port currently faces space constraints, and the southern expansion will help address these limits and support long-term growth.
The Klaipėda Southport Development Project includes reclaiming around 100 hectares of new port land and building 1.3 kilometres of new quays
