More than two and a half years after king tides with heavy rains damaged a beach berm in Hansville shoreline and flooded the nearby neighborhood in December 2022, Kitsap County announced the next phase to repair the beach and shoreline around Point No Point, scheduled to start later this month.
The work includes repairing the main parking lot, rebuilding a rock revetment wall in front of the Point No Point lighthouse, additional elevation improvements to the beach, and planting native vegetation to stabilize the north beach and support long-term resiliency, the county said in a statement on August 14.
The repair project is scheduled to start in the last week of August and continue through November. During this time, the Point No Point County Park will remain closed to vehicular traffic to ensure public safety and allow for efficient progress. Construction materials, equipment, and operations will be staged within the park, according to the county.
Pedestrians and cyclists can still visit the park during construction, including the Labor Day weekend, Kitsap County said in a statement, while asking users to be cautious when traveling near staging areas.
The county said most work will occur during regular hours, but there may be occasional evening activities to maintain the project timeline, which could cause increased noise.
The main entrance road and parking lot at the county park remain closed.
In 2023, the county finished the first phase to repair the shoreline, which was to import sand and rock materials to restore the north beach to pre-storm elevations.
