A construction contract for reconstruction of the jetties that flank the channel into and out of Nantucket Harbor is expected to be awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Sept. 18.
Town emergency-management coordinator Dave Fronzuto said in an e-mail the dredging associated with the project is expected to start in early October with a November end date, with the reconstruction itself taking upwards of a year.
“The plan right now is getting the east side knocked out before the winter as there will be less congestion with boat traffic,” Fronzuto said in an update on the dredging to the Board of Selectmen.
