Jersey Shore will get $99M after severe erosion. See which beach towns will benefit

Several New Jersey beaches hit hardest by erosion will receive long‑awaited replenishment after federal officials approved tens of millions of dollars for nourishment projects.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia office announced Tuesday that it plans to carry out $99 million in beach replenishment projects in Cape May County in the coming months.

The work will focus on overdue nourishment for areas of Ocean City, Strathmere, Sea Isle City, Avalon and Stone Harbor.

Those towns last received beach replenishment in 2024.

The funding ends months of uncertainty, as town officials lobbied state and federal agencies for help after repeated coastal storms stripped much of the Jersey Shore of sand.

In some communities, the erosion prompted emergency declarations and calls for federal disaster funding.

In February, U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, who represents Cape May County, toured the area’s beaches with Adam Telle, assistant secretary of the U.S. Army’s Civil Works Division. During the visit, both suggested funding could be forthcoming in an intensive beach repair effort ahead of the warmer months.
