Jeddah Islamic Port receives new STS cranes

Posted on February 1, 2023

Jeddah Islamic Port has received three new Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes to improve operational efficiency at its North Container Terminal.

The equipment was supplied by the Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), which operates the North Container Terminal at the port.

This move aligns with the wider ambitions of the Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) to transform the country’s maritime sector into a global logistics powerhouse.

The acquisition of the cranes brings the number of state-of-the-art cranes at the North Container Terminal to 24.

This is part of the 6-billion-riyal ($1.6 billion) concession agreement between the terminal operator and the national maritime regulator seeking to upgrade capacity up to 8.8 million TEU.

With 62 berths, four terminals, and an annual throughput of 130 million tons, Jeddah Islamic Port is the busiest port in Saudi Arabia and a leading hub for maritime trade in the Red Sea.

In October 2022, Jeddah Islamic Port saw its container throughput breach a new monthly with 468,550 TEU at a 16.54 per cent yearly growth rate.
