JAXPORT is inviting the public to celebrate the arrival of One Stork, the largest containership ever to call Jacksonville.
The magenta-colored vessel is 364 meters (1194 feet) in length. That’s almost three and a half football fields! It can carry 14,000 containers. This is compared to other large ships to call JAXPORT which topped out at a capacity of 11,923 containers.
The recently completed 47-foot harbor deepening project provides enough water depth to accommodate the vessel.
Aside from the large numbers, the public will be able to watch the ship’s arrival. JAXPORT has created a map showing all the public areas along the St. Johns River to see the ship as it makes its way toward the port’s Blount Island Marine Terminal.
Those who see the One Stork, and can safely take a photo, are encouraged to share it on social media using the hashtag #FoundONE.
