It is happening! The first giant element for the Scheldt tunnel has left Zeebrugge, the place where it was built, and is on its way to its final destination: the Oosterweel link in Antwerp.
Four tugboats and one push boat escort the giant on its spectacular journey of over 100 kilometres. They travel along the North Sea towards the Scheldt, pausing twice along the way to await the right tide.
Each element is 160 metres long, 42 metres wide, and 10 metres high. Weight: 60,000 tonnes. In the end, this giant will contribute to safer traffic, smoother mobility, and a stronger Flemish economy.
