As we speak, the first of eight elements of the future Scheldt Tunnel in Antwerp is being sunk into its final position.
Sinking a tunnel section in a tidal river like the Scheldt is an exceptional technical feat. That is why the operation takes place around slack tide, a period when the difference between high and low tide is minimal, resulting in weaker river currents.
