JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District (USACE), is beginning preparation of a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document to address the maneuverability and safety concerns within the federal channel of Gordon and Big Marco passes in Naples, Florida. Collier County is the Non-Federal Sponsor (NFS) for this maintenance dredging project. USACE is currently gathering information to define issues and concerns that will be addressed in an analysis to be prepared in compliance with the NEPA.
The Gordon and Big Marco Passes are located on the Gulf Coast of peninsular Florida, just south of Naples in Collier County. Gordon Pass is the northern portion of the project area near Port Royal, while Big Marco Pass is the southern portion of the project area near the Isles of Capri (see Figure 1). Within the project area there are seagrasses, threatened and endangered species, designated critical habitat, mangrove habitat, estuarine wetlands, and other fish and wildlife resources.
USACE welcomes your views, comments and information regarding environmental and cultural resources, project objectives, and important features within the described project area.
USACE will accept written comments regarding the proposed project via email to Kathryn.E.Lebow@usace.army.mil or by U.S. mail to the address below for 30 calendar days from the date of this letter.
