Jacksonville District issues scoping letter for Fernandina Harbor maintenance dredging

Posted on July 1, 2024

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District (USACE), seeks public comments, views, and information regarding the preparation of a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) document for the maintenance dredging of the federal navigation channel as well as realignment of a portion of the channel in the vicinity of Fernandina Harbor, Florida.

The district has published a scoping letter to solicit public input as it defines issues and concerns that will be addressed in compliance with the NEPA, which was most recently completed in 2000. The updated NEPA will ensure compliance with the Endangered Species Act under the 2020 South Atlantic Regional Biological Opinion for Dredging and Material Placement Activities in the Southeast United States (SARBO) and address the realignment of the federal channel away from the Fernandina Harbor Municipal Marina.

The 2000 NEPA document is available for review at https://www.saj.usace.army.mil/About/Divisions-Offices/Planning/Environmental-Branch/Environmental-Documents/.

On that page, click on the “+” next to “Nassau” and scroll down to find and open the Fernandina Harbor project documents dated May 2000.

Comments may be submitted via email to FernandinaHarbor@usace.army.mil or via U.S. Postal Service mail to:
