The Eau Gallie Muck Removal Area A1 project consists of environmental dredging (hydraulic only), dewatering, effluent treatment, and disposal of organic sediments (muck) from the Eau Gallie Dredge Area A1. Project planning and design surveys have identified approximately 488,057 cubic yards of muck to be removed with a 0.5-foot permitted and payable allowable overdredge. The dredge area is located on the east coast of Brevard County, Florida, north of County Road 518 (Eau Gallie Causeway). A dewatering facility is available at the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) DMMA BV-52 located approximately 7 miles south of the dredge template area. This project is part of Brevard County’s Save Our Indian River Lagoon program aimed to improve water quality and habitat by removing this accumulation of muck which is harmful to marine life and releases stored nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) that can trigger algal blooms.
