Could that thick layer of black muck that chokes our harbors and channels be a natural resource that could become new recreational areas and barrier islands that protect our coastline during severe tides and storm surges?
The answer is at least a qualified yes. And the town’s plan to dredge the Mianus River south of the dam is an ideal opportunity to demonstrate there is a more constructive use for the scooped out silt than dumping it in the middle of Long Island Sound.
