Representatives of an “inland port” in Dallas looking for business partners to feed its growing demand called on the ports of Beaumont and Port Arthur on Monday to see whether they might make a match.
The inland port is in the southern part of the city and is served primarily by rail shipments from a container port in Long Beach, California.
Shipping by rail across such distance is expensive, said Lee Kleinman, a member of Dallas City Council. Kleinman made the trip with North Texas Commission chief executive Mabrie Jackson, a granddaughter of the late Bernis Sadler, who served as Port Arthur mayor for many years in the 1970s
