“We are thrilled that the state has committed to funding this important beach restoration project here in Indian River County,” said Jason Brown, Indian River County Administrator. “Beaches are an important resource to our residents and guests who visit the area as they provide a critical environmental habitat, as well as economic and recreational value to our community. The construction completed along Sector 3 will help to better protect our coast and make it more resilient to future storms.”
The first phase of the Beach and Dune Renourishment Project started on Jan. 4 and went through April 30 along 3.7 miles of beach from Treasure Shores Beach Park to Wabasso Beach Park. Sand was placed on the dune and the berm to create a wider beach, and native dune plants were planted.
On-beach construction of phase one will start on Nov. 1 after sea turtle nesting season.
