SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Repairs to the Ocean Beach Pier could be delayed and more damage to the pier could occur as three storms prepare to move through San Diego this weekend.
Crews are still assessing the damages to the pier, according to Alec Phillipp, with the City of San Diego. Crews were also still working to clear damaged material off the pier.
Phillipp added there was no estimate for when the repairs would be completed. And incoming rain could hamper those efforts, or make damages worse.
“We were able to power some lighting on the pier to help with boat navigation around the pier, but we don’t have any estimates for repairs yet. The forecasted rain will likely delay our ability to assess and repair the pier, and of course additional damage is a possibility,” Phillipp said.
The OB Pier was damaged by high surf, as the force of waves splintered a portion of the pier’s railing earlier this month. The surf washed up planks of wood ripped from the pier onto shore .
Since the damages occurred, the pier has remained closed to residents and tourists.
Three storms are forecasted to roll through the San Diego region into next week. The first storm on Thursday could bring .25 to .75 of an inch of rain to the coast, while the second storm on Saturday could dump .5 to two inches of rain on the coast.
A third storm is expected to bring showers to the area Sunday into Monday.
