IHC Mining awarded contract for slurrification and dewatering equipment for large tailings removal project

Posted on February 2, 2026

IHC Mining has been awarded a contract by STRACON Engineering to supply slurrification and dewatering equipment for the removal of gypsum sludge from the Pérez Caldera Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) at Anglo American Sur’s Los Bronces copper mine in Chile. The dam is located just North-East of Santiago at an altitude of 3,400 metres above sea-level.

The contract marks another key step in IHC Mining’s growing contribution to safe and sustainable tailings management worldwide. In recent years, we have delivered multiple solutions for the removal, re-handling and reprocessing of historical mine tailings—an increasingly urgent challenge as thousands of legacy storage facilities across the globe face structural risks, hinder mine expansion plans, or hold renewed mineral value. Because these tailings often contain high moisture levels, they are particularly suited to dredging and slurrification techniques.

At the Pérez Caldera TSF, IHC Mining will deliver four amphibious mining slurrification units, a series of OTTer® booster pumps, a complete densification plant, and the necessary slurry pipelines, cables, automation and control systems. Together, this integrated equipment package will support the safe removal of the gypsum sludge layer which is deposited on top of the tailings. Once the gypsum sludge is removed, the mining slurrification units will assist in the removal of the tailings. IHC Mining’s solution enhances responsible waste and water management throughout the operation.

“IHC Mining is proud to support STRACON on this long‑term project and to contribute our expertise in cost‑effective, safe tailings management and efficient water use,” said Hans Greve, Director IHC Mining. “Our integrated equipment and engineering solutions will help enable a responsible transition of the Pérez Caldera facility and support the mine’s wider sustainability objectives.”
