IHC America is pleased to announce receipt and delivery of a contract with the Port of Portland to design and have installed a state of the art spud hoisting system on the Port’s dredge, ”The Oregon.” The “Oregon” was originally built in 1965, IHCA’s spud hoist system refit is the latest overhaul of the dredge since it was refitted with new engines in 2014.
Due to the age and customer’s requirements of the Oregon the IHCA design was custom built for this application, with a hydraulic power pack driving dual cylinders. Each of the 36”(0.91m) diameter spuds is over 85’(26m) in length, weighing approx. 25 tons. This weight is required in order to achieve adequate penetration and bear the loads incurred at the dredging depths of up to 48” (14.6m).
The Port of Portland is expected to install the spud hoisting system in the first quarter of 2021.
IHC America continues its strategy of providing not only CSD, Hopper dredges and parts, but also custom designed parts and systems for our customers in N. America utilizing a majority of U.S. made and supplied components. IHCA is a subsidiary of Royal IHC, The Netherlands, one of the oldest and largest dredge designers and builders in the world.
