SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Navarre Beach will soon have hundreds of feet of more sand as the next phase of a renourishment project is underway, according to county officials.
A Santa Rosa County news release said the next phase is dredging or sand placement.
Dredging will occur in four phases and comes after crews submerged two pipelines for sand. The first phase of dredging is scheduled to begin as soon as Saturday, Dec. 21 near 7631 Gulf Boulevard and extending down to the west end of Navarre Beach.
“This portion of the beach will be closed to the public,” the release said. “Crews will operate 24/7, including holidays, and will place around 700 feet of sand per day.”
Although the portion of the beach that phase one is occurring on will be closed, officials said that surrounding beaches will be open to the public, allowing access to the gulf.
Each dredging phase is set to take about seven days, according to officials.
Following the dredging completion, crews are scheduled to remove shore equipment, remove sublines, conduct beach tilling, and install native plants. More information on the project can be found on Santa Rosa County’s website.
