Hulhumalé Phase III land reclamation reaches 77.8% completion

Posted on January 5, 2026

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced that land reclamation works at Hulhumalé Phase III have reached 77.8 per cent completion.

In its latest update, MACL said 49 hectares have been reclaimed so far out of the 63 hectares planned for the Phase III development.

Land reclamation works for Hulhumalé Phase III began in October 2023 but experienced several temporary stoppages. Works resumed on 10 November 2025 and have since progressed at an accelerated pace following the deployment of additional heavy machinery to the site.

To further expedite the project, the Government has mobilised two large dredgers, each capable of handling up to 22,000 cubic metres of sand per cycle. One of the dredgers, a trailing suction hopper dredger operated by Boskalis, commenced reclamation operations at the site on 28 November 2025

Once reclamation works are completed, the Government plans to begin allocating land plots in the newly reclaimed area.

Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has stated that reclamation works at Hulhumalé Phase III are scheduled to be completed by 20 January 2026.
