Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division has revealed its plans to hire more than 2,000 full-time shipbuilders.
The recruitment drive is part of its future workforce plans.
According to the HII, a hiring event will be hosted by Ingalls Shipbuilding’s talent acquisition team at the Ingalls Maritime Training Academy, Jerry St Pé Highway, on 9 July.
The company will be hiring people for wide range of work roles including structural welders, pipe fitters, ship fitters and pipe welders.
The newly hired shipbuilders will be added to the company’s existing skilled workforce to provide critical capabilities to the national security customers.
It will also include naval destroyers, amphibious warships and national security cutters (NSC).
Ingalls Shipbuilding president Kari Wilkinson said: “With a shipbuilding legacy of nearly 84 years, Ingalls offers careers dedicated to a service mission, building ships that protect and defend our freedoms.
“We are excited to be adding new members to our team and to be providing a variety of stable career opportunities to our community.”
HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding is located on an 800-acre site in Pascagoula, Mississippi, US.
Recently, the division has upgraded covered workspaces for the shipbuilders to keep them cool and dry.
Ingalls Shipbuilding facility has also upgraded other facilities for the employees in past few years, including tool rooms, additional hydration stations, improved access to work sites and expanded meal choices in the shipyard.
HII human resources and administration vice-president Susan Jacobs said: “With over 500 different jobs, there is no limit to what you can do at Ingalls.
“Shipbuilding is hard work, but we strive to make sure our shipbuilders have the tools and conveniences they need to do the hard work well.”
