High Bids, Competing Projects, Put Beach Nourishment On Hold

Beach nourishment in three town is on hold for at least a year after bids came in substantially over the amount of money available and none could promise getting started by this spring.

Together, Kitty Hawk, Duck and Kill Devil Hills, with help from the Dare County beach nourishment fund, have budgeted $43.5 million for one company to pump sand onto all three beaches.

The joint project is aimed at saving money by doing the work all at once.
