HCMC Canal Dredging Damages Houses Badly, Compensation to be Paid

Hundreds of houses along a Ho Chi Minh City canal have been weakened and are in danger of collapse reportedly because of work to dredge and clean the canal and upgrade the streets along it.

More than 300 houses on one bank of the Tan Hoa-Lo Gom Canal in District 6 have sustained cracks, subsidence or tilt following the World Bank-funded work, which finished last April.

The US$166-million work to dredge the 7.5-kilometer (4.66-mile) canal and upgrade the streets along it had taken three years.
