Councillors are grappling with a huge “blowout” in the projected cost of dredging part of the Pirie River.
When the New Year begins, the first strategic planning meeting of council is expected to look at the rise in cost to $2 million.
Several councillors are shocked at the pricetag which is about double the original estimate.
“Put the word ‘marine’ into the equation and the cost goes up more than 50 percent,” said one local government onlooker.
