Dredging needs had nothing to do with the Ben-my-Chree crash, if it was unsafe, the master wouldn’t have chosen to dock.
That’s the insistence of director of Ports Ann Reynolds – answers will come once the investigatory report by expert divers is released.
That’ll determine if damage to both the Ben and the King Edward Pier is superficial – as expected – or structural.
Ms Reynolds says it didn’t happen because the harbour is in desperate need of dredging, or because the large fender destroyed years earlier is yet to be replaced.
